Maya Bay

Maya Bay is one of Thailand’s true national treasures. It was featured in the Hollywood film “The Beach” released in 2000 and starring actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Before that, it was only known to small numbers of travelers. Its reputation, however, was high among those in search of the best beaches in the world. When audiences around the world saw the bay’s unique and beautiful landscape, it became a prime destination for those seeking a tropical paradise. Tourists flocked to the area in large numbers.

Having been off limits to the public for three and a half years to allow for environmental rejuvenation, Maya Bay in Krabi’s Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park has now officially reopened to tourists since 1 January, 2022

The bay on the uninhabited island of Phi Phi Leh has been closed since June 2018, when it was determined the area’s coral and other marine life needed time to recover from the damage being caused. Daily visitor numbers to Maya Bay is controlled to protect the local environment and marine ecosystem, and a specific area is designated for swimming.
